Each division has its own requirements with regard to what high school
    student-athletes must do to be eligible to participate in intercollegiate
    athletics.  Division I and Division II are very different from Division III
    which does not utilize the Eligibility Center (formerly known as the
    Clearinghouse).  Further, it is possible to meet the requirements in one
    Division and not another.  Below is a synopsis of the requirements for
    each Division.

    For NCAA Division II schools, students must be certified by the Eligibility
    Center.  To accomplish this they must:

  • Graduate from high school with a diploma;
  • Complete these 14 Core Courses:
  • 3 years of English;
  • 2 years of mathematics (Algebra I or higher);
  • 2 years of natural/physical science (1 year of lab if offered by high
    school);
  • 2 years of additional English, mathematics or natural/physical
    science.
  • 2 years of social science;
  • 3 years of additional courses (from any area above, foreign language
    or nondoctrinal religion/philosophy);
  • Earn a 2.000 grade-point average or better in the core courses;
  • Earn a minimum combined SAT score of 820 or an ACT sum score
    of 68.
Division III

    NAIA schools are different from NCAA schools and follow their own
    rules.  To be eligible at an NAIA school students must:

  • Achieve a minimum score of 18 on the ACT or 860 on the SAT. The
    SAT score of 860 must be achieved on the Critical Reading and
    Math sections of the exam.  The test score must be achieved at a
    single test sitting administered by a certified tester on a National or
    International testing date to apply to this requirement.  Residual
    tests are not acceptable. The ACT/SAT test must be taken prior to
    the beginning of the term in which the student initially participates.
  • Achieve a minimum overall high school grade point average of 2.000
    on a 4.000 scale.
  • Graduate in the upper half of the student's high school graduating
    class. This is interpreted to mean the class ranking listed on the
    student's final high school transcript. High schools that do not rank
    students may elect to certify that the student has met this
    requirement.
