The answer is entering into an oral agreement with an agent
An agent represents individuals to market their athletic ability in contract negotiation or for commercial endorsements. Any agreement for representation – whether oral or in writing will cost a high school student-athlete his or her amateurism status and thus preclude the high school student- athlete from participating in intercollegiate athletics.
High school student-athletes may actually enter a professional sports draft prior to initial full-time collegiate enrollment. High school student-athletes may tryout with a professional sports team provided they 1) do not receive not more than one expense paid visit from each professional team (or combine including that team); 2) the visit does not exceed 48 hours; and 3) any payment in connection with the visit does not exceed actual and necessary expenses. A high school student-athlete may accept prize money based on place finish in open events so long as the prize money 1) does not exceed actual and necessary expenses for the high school student- athlete; and 2) is provided only by the sponsor of the open event.
